A Little History On Our Coach
Growing up in the mountains of southwestern Virginia , it was not unusual for Chris Elliott to be running and playing on his dad's farm. From running on the farm to running in school races, Chris was voted most athletic in the 440-yd dash and the 600-yd dash by his sixth-grade class. While in junior high and the earlier part of high school, Chris allowed his academics to take priority over running. Chris joined the track team his junior and senior years. Although Chris was not the fastest runner on the team, he lettered his senior year running the 800 meters, as well as graduating seventh in his senior class.
In the years following high school, running was a friend to Chris in order to relax and keep unwanted weight off. Running also allowed Chris to keep up with the teenagers he ministered to through the church. However, in 1999, an injury occurred in the right knee, and running looked like a sport of the past. Due to nothing short of a miracle, Chris had a full recovery from the injury.
Chris knew if he kept running the same way the injury would return, or he would get an injury of worse proportion. The time had arrived to hire a personal trainer. Within three years, Chris took 45 seconds off his mile time from high school and his 800m was equivalent to his high school success.
Chris' experience with a personal trainer was so positive and educational, the experience led to Chris' desire to give the same experience to other runners. When researching the North Carolina universities to obtain this desire, The University of North Carolina at Greensboro was the one school with the personal touch.
Chris graduated UNCG May 12, 2006 , with a 4.0 GPA. During the spring of 2006, Chris' internship was in Indianapolis , IN with the Indiana Invaders, an elite development club for post-collegiate track & field athletes. Chris now coaches for 9.24 Running.
